Nakheel Mall : preliminary road design completed

WME is lead engineer for the Nakheel Mall project, delivering structural, building services, AV/IT, fire and sustainability engineering — working closely with client Nakheel and architect RSP. We were appointed to design the internal and external road networks after the main contract had begun.

Working to a fast-track schedule, with works already under way, we have less than a year to deliver the design work and six months for site supervision relating to the road components. This includes access roads, elevated ramps, tunnels and pavement improvements linking the mall parking to the surrounding road network.

Nakheel Mall is a 450,000 sq ft concrete frame structure, sited on a residential island. A monorail runs down the spine, bisecting the mall site — requiring careful attention to clearances, approvals and permissions. Major sewage, drainage and lighting infrastructure for the island is already located under the plot and can’t be interrupted. Our road engineers have been co-ordinating with our internal teams to ensure smooth structural integration, construction-wise and within the schedule. The roads are due for completion in early 2017.
