Led by Project Director Kenneth Heney and Lead Engineer David Quinn, WME worked with the client stakeholders at Atlantis Resorts (Atlantis The Palm) to develop a proposal to replace nearly 9MW of electric resistance domestic hot water cylinders serving one of the worldโ€™s busiest hotels.

The agreed solution of water-to-water heat pumps was designed to allow a phased changeover from the existing system to ensure there was zero downtown experienced by hotel guests. The first phase commenced in early 2020, and the full system was operational by November 2020 with a reduction in energy consumption of over 3.9 million kWh expected every year โ€“ equivalent to the electricity used by 272 homes – and a reduction in carbon emission of 1.5Million Kg of CO2.

The project was also Highly Commended in the Retrofit Project of the Year category.
