Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, phases 3 and 4
Components of the two latest phases include classrooms, a science laboratory, workshops, an atrium, a library, dining and kitchen facilities, a 700-seat auditorium and 10,700 sq m of residential accommodation.
SISD caters for over 2,500 students and staff, and offers all levels of schooling, from kindergarten to high school. The design & build project delivers 55,000 sq m of teaching space, accommodation and support facilities. We are providing a full range of engineering services, including structural, building services, fire, infrastructure and traffic engineering, plus sustainability consultancy and acting as architect of record.
The primary and secondary school buildings are the first in the Middle East to be low-energy certified by the MINERGIE Association, Switzerland. For the secondary school, our engineers have worked to optimize the glazed facade shading and the atrium glazing location to mitigate potential heat gain without compromising daylight levels.
Further low energy measures include the use of energy-efficient building fabric, triple glazing, careful selection of lighting and equipment, and photovoltic panels. Careful attention has also been paid the the air conditioning arrangements for the atrium and multi-purpose auditorium. Smoke modelling has determined the best ways to mitigate fire risk in the atrium area.
