WME is providing infrastructure master planning, infrastructure engineering and road design for the Commercial Spine project — part of the start-up phase of the 260 sq km Sudair Industrial City development, some 120km northwest of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 442,000 sq m project site is adjacent to the Riyadh-Qaseem highway, and will provide a mix of fuel/service stations, truck stops and commercial operations such as retail units and temporary accommodation, with office space and community facilities. The linear development includes pedestrianised and landscaped areas, and compact contemporary architecture, the planning for which is inspired by the form of a traditional souq.

The infrastructure and road engineering is being delivered in two stages: concept and detailed design. Our work includes earthwork analysis, storm water management, and the design of the power distribution network and telecommunications ducting infrastructure. Below-ground works include storm drainage, potable water supply, a fire hydrant network and irrigation water storage, pumping and supply.

Our road engineers are working on roadway and parking design, street lighting, pavements, signage and traffic calming, including the detailed design of road profiles and kerb sections.
