Meet Gem Palomar
When Gem joined the WME human resources team in Dubai four years ago, the consultancy had 50 employees. Her responsibilities have grown together with the size of the practice — she now deftly handles the HR administration for our staff of more than 230 people.
Gem grew up in the Phillipines and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel and restaurant management. She came to Dubai nine years ago as a career move, working first in HR in the advertising industry followed by the construction industry — learning a lot about administration along the way. She was ready for the level of responsibility offered by WME.
“And I like WME’s approach to supporting and encouraging its people. The whole team goes ‘up’ together, sharing knowledge. It’s open and transparent.”
She has also been learning more about the work engineers do, and is especially interested in MEP engineering. Besides her HR administration work, Gem contributes to tasks such as the creation of submission documents, which is helping her better understand the industry. She sees the growth of WME as creating new opportunities for her career.
“My future is here in Dubai. I like it that everything is fast and convenient. And if you want to learn anything, nothing is impossible.”
Indeed she is making the most of her spare time, taking up table tennis, learning ballroom dancing and guitar … and keyboards …
